Feeling BAD about your writing?

Feeling BAD about your writing?

Are you feeling bad about your writing? Does it lead to procrastination and the fear that it is not going to be good enough? Do you fear that your co-authors or the supervisor will criticise you and it stops you in your tracks?

Today’s video is exactly about this same problem: when you feel really bad about your writing because in the past you’ve handed in a draft of your paper and your co-authors or the supervisor changed everything not leaving one single sentence standing. And this has left you feeling not very confident about your writing abilities.

Watch this video to learn how to deal with this situation and to become more confident about your writing!

In the comments below, please share how your feel about you writing abilities. Have you experienced the situation described in this video? How does the mindset shift that I’ve shared in this video is helping you to progress on your paper?

This is a great idea of “produce a imperfect but complete paper for first write up”. I was facing procrastination of writing my thesis and this suggestion motivating to start writing now. You are doing a great service to research community. Thank you, Olga.

    • Hi Kaushik! I am glad this post and the idea of a complete imperfect draft are helpful! You are definitely not alone and thinking of “writing the whole thesis perfectly” would bring many of us into overwhelm and procrastination. Decide on a chapter, and focus on producing the first imperfect draft of it. Hope this helps. And watch out for the LIVE interview this week and a virtual lecture next week: they will be full of motivation and strategies!
